What is hypnotherapy?

Let me firstly say that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis and that you as the client are in complete control of any suggestions given during a session. When hypnotherapy is practiced by a trustworthy and professionally qualified therapist it is a completely safe and fast form of therapy. During a session you will enter into a hypnotic state which is characterised as a tremendously pleasant state of relaxation, where beneficial suggestions are given directly to the part of the mind known as the subconscious.

All lasting change is made in the subconscious part of the mind and during hypnosis, the conscious or rational part of your brain is temporarily bypassed, making the subconscious (the part which influences mental and physical functions) receptive to therapy. In the hypnotic or trance state there is heightened concentration for the specific purpose change e.g. maximising potential, changing limiting beliefs and behaviours, and gaining insight and wisdom.
